About The John Trivett Senior Research Fellowship in Brain Cancer Research

18 Nov 2014

The John Trivett Senior Research Fellow in Brain Cancer is funded by the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the largest fundraising body for brain cancer research in Australia.

The Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s mission is to accelerate new treatments for brain cancer patients and increase five-year survival to 50% within 10 years.

This prestigious fellowship, the John Trivett Senior Research Fellow in Brain Cancer, has been funded to help meet Cure Brain Cancer’s objective to support the creation and implementation of a collaborative, international and multi-disciplinary brain cancer research community.

The multidisciplinary collaboration between UQ's Institute for Molecular Bioscience and Queensland Brain Institute, in conjunction with both institutes’ outstanding local and international partnerships, is pivotal to the achievement of Cure Brain Cancer’s objective, and is indicative of the research calibre required of the foundation John Trivett Senior Research Fellow in Brain Cancer.

The Cure Brain Cancer Foundation recognises that to solve a complex problem like brain cancer things need to be done differently; to think laterally and find smarter solutions that allow breakthroughs to be made much faster than traditional research methods allow.

To offer patients accelerated access to promising new treatments, the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is leveraging discoveries made in areas that share common problems: other cancers, neuroscience, genomics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, immunology and nanotechnology. They help fund the Brain Cancer Discovery Collaborative across Australia, and were responsible for co-establishing the Global Brain Exchange with partners from the US, Europe and China. They are working with like-minded partners globally to achieve their mission.

The John Trivett Senior Research Fellow in Brain Cancer has been named in honour of John Trivett, a prominent Queensland entrepreneur and philanthropist, who succumbed to brain cancer in 1997. The Fellowship also recognises the long term support of brain cancer research at IMB by The John Trivett Foundation which was established by Beverly Trivett following the death of her husband John. The John Trivett Foundation has now merged with Cure Brain Cancer Foundation due to their concomitant visions to accelerate a cure for brain cancer.
