Forces in Biology - a joint IMB & MBI symposium

4 Aug 2015

Please join us from 8-9 October 2015 for Forces in Biology, a joint symposium of UQ's Institute for Molecular Bioscience and the Mechanobiology Institute of Singapore.

This free two-day symposium is devoted to the exciting new field of mechanobiology, and will bring together biologists, mathematicians, physicists, and engineers to highlight how mechanical forces generated and sensed by the body contribute to fundamental processes in health and disease, such as organ development, stress, and inflammation.

The event will feature an impressive line up of speakers, including Mike Sheetz (MBI/Columbia), a recent Lasker Prize winner; and Martin Schwartz (Yale), who will deliver keynote talks. There will also be a range of talks from leading Australia and MBI researchers in the field.

Talk topics range from the cell and developmental biology of mechanotransduction, to pathogens and their hosts, to computational and engineering analyses of cell and tissue mechanics.

The program will also highlight some of the interdisciplinary energy that is to be found in this exciting field.
